Do the work. Develop the capacity

I’m passionate about seeing people achieve their best life. I believe that everyone (including myself) is a work in progress. I believe my gym offers the perfect environment for people to grow and develop not only their physical bodies but their mental toughness. Life is tough and if it isn’t – well, you just haven’t lived long enough yet.

My philosophy is this: Do the work. Develop the capacity and it makes all the other stuff in your life easy/ier. If I can introduce you to a little hardship on a daily basis you’ll eventually develop the capacity to handle it – It’s with this constant pressure that you grow stronger in both body and mind.

I’m not here to beat people into a pulp for the shear fun of it but if you were expecting to rock into Adapt and not be asked to step out of your comfort zone boy do you have another thing coming. This is CrossFit and this is what we do at Adapt. I will push you further than you think your capable of. I’ll ask you to get back on the bar when can’t breathe and give me another rep.

I’m not here to be reasonable – that’s your bosses job. I’m an unreasonable guy who’ll ask you to do unreasonable things. If you were after something reasonable you’d be doing your own thing down the road at Anytime Fitness and well, you already know people who train there.

You know the saying: “Do today what other people won’t so you can do tomorrow what other people can’t”

The change up in programming has shocked quite a few people but as we head into summer I want you guys to be ready, willing and able to jump into any random WOD or local throwdown (yep, Bernie just released a date for the Smash Clash…) with a “bring it on” attitude.

Sure I’ll drag you guys into the future kicking and screaming. Manage to stick it out long enough and you’ll thank me for it.

Comments

  1. A: 90 Kg

B : Sliced toe with toe nail during the first 21 burpees.
Only made the first 5 pullups in the round of 15 before the clock ran out.

What first week back this has been. Walked into Red Brick ordered a coffee The first words out of the barista – You look tired, you must do crossfit.

  2. A. 60kg reached. By no means a 1RM, but knee is still causing some big pain, really have to take it easy for a while.

    B. Good stuff this, managed to finish, only on the bigger bands.

  3. A: 100KG. Should have pushed for 105.

B: Burpees are slowly getting better. Actually, it still hurts, I’m just getting more done. And box jumps aren’t so much of a struggle now. Band pull-ups for a time of 9:47.

  4. A) 82.5kgs. Solid PB for me. Yew! (previously 70kgs – 3 x 5′s)

    B) 8.16 with a red band assisted PU’s… my toes could touch the ground with each rep which gave me a bit of a spring over the bar each time as well… sure that’s probably not 100% legit.

    • Amazing effort too this morning from Ivan – flying through unbroken PU’s unassisted like a hurricane.

      Hurricane Ivan.

  5. A: 120 kg (PB). Lost some form on the last lift, but happy to complete it. Good advice from Ben re which weights to attempt on the way to the 1RM.

B: 10:29. Pullups mostly done as singles – need a lot more work on these.

  6. A: new PB – 60kg – lost it on 63kg so have some work to do

B: 10:45 – attempted 1 yellow band, but to get through it had to use two. Managed not to graze my knees on the burpees…..maybe I finally did them properly this morning…!?

  7. Nick Hind says:

A: 110kg – been a while so working back up on these.

B: 6:45 Rx’d with chest-to-bar pullups. These were tough. 6 no-reps from coach Sean in last set hurt pretty bad! Blew out heaps on that last round with the pullups.

  8. A) worked upto 110 , failed , got 100 kg .
    B ) 9.59 rxd .Thanks sash , nice work .

  9. A) Failed 105 first attempt but got it on the second. Failed at 110.

    B) 8:57 i think? But Chest to bar quickly turned to chin over bar.
But it was fun pushing Johnny to his limit. 6:28. AWESOOOMME!

And Pete was great to watch getting out of the lowest front squat @120KG!

    • Great work Erik mate youre a legend at geeing it up and throwing down the motivation. Legend.

  10. And good Write up ben! I love it

  11. Failed 105, hit 105, failed 110 really want to build better leg strength aiming for 140 in 6 months.

B: 6:28 Rx definitely could’ve and should’ve moved faster in the PUs by doing them unbroken. Chest-to-bar is heaps harder than normal Kipping.

Inspirational effort from Pete this morning I swear his things touched the ground. Madness

  12. A: 50kg, 55kg (f)

B: 9:41, chest to bar using orange band. Woah.

  13. Michael Honey says:

9:23 Rx with solid chest-to-bar pullups. Gotta get better at stringing those pullups together.

  14. Michael Honey says:

Oh, and (A) 90kg, then failed at 100 kg (previous PR) twice. Should have snuck up on it in smaller increments, but hard to do in a group session.

  15. veronicarose says:

A: I got to 37.5 kgs on my front squat, I was trying for 40 kgs, and I couldn’t get there. Soon…
B: 9:35, with ring rows. I was rather happy I kept the box jumps up on te 20″ box!
